Then We'll See Who Beats Up Who ! ! !
Israel's military is known as the Israel Defense Force
(IDF). EVERY ABLE-BODIED Jewish Israeli citizen is
drafted into service at the age of 18. Some get
dispensation for religious... reasons. Young men serve
for three years. Young women serve for 21 months to two
years; it is their right of passage!
Israeli young women even served in combat during Israel's
1948 War of Independence simply because there weren't
enough fighters, but haven't done so again until the late
1990s. Women who volunteer for combat positions serve
three years due to additional training.
In the Israel Defense Force, girls:
-
become physically and emotionally fit - it's extremely urgent that their self-esteem and confidence is built to the hilt - by taking gymnastics and calisthenics.
- learn how to shoot a gun and become proficient at target practice in basic training. They learn to take apart UZIs (Israeli-made) in seconds, assemble them, and shoot (hitting the target!); they learn to shoot M-16s (American-made) just as adeptly.
- become exercise instructors, tank instructors, radio operators.
-
become proficient in top secret military intelligence.
-
become experts in naval telecommunications, and more....
[We thank creators of Krav Maga Worldwide, Inc. website
(2009) for the opportunity to excerpt the following.]
The Krav Maga System is the official self-defense system of
of the Israel Defense Force. Influenced by his father,
Samuel (a police officer and self-defense instructor),
Imi Lichtenfeld created Krav Maga in 1948 when the State
of Israel was formed and the fledgling government asked
Imi to develop an effective system of self-defense and
fighting, which later became the Krav Maga System taught
in the United States and throughout the world. Imi then
adapted Krav Maga to everyday life. The system was
adjusted for ordinary men, women, and children who might
face an aggressive encounter. In 1998, Imi Lichtenfeld
passed away.
Through The Krav Maga Women Only Program, women are taught
how to safely fend off an attacker with kicks, punches,
elbows, and knees; especially, when they are already in a
choke, bearhug, and headlock, whether standing up or on
the ground. The program incorporates training methods to
build women's fighting spirit and to train them how to
respond both mentally and physically in a time of need,
eliminating the danger of "freezing" or "shutting down"
in confrontations.

Just because a woman is trained to defend herself doesn't mean a man can't attack her anyway. In the US military there is a HUGE problem with women soldiers being raped by male soldiers. I personally know such a woman. It's a nightmare. The military doesn't want you to know this, of course.

That's a good point! I was told by someone who was in the army that even men in the U.S. don't learn hand-to-hand combat while in the service. He said they just learn to shoot. I don't know if that has changed. Isn't that strange that our service men and women are not taught hand-to-hand combat!? Besides the mental confidence, women should be taught hand to hand combat. It's better than nothing at all. All violence against woman is a nightmarish quandary! It's disgusting! Thank you SO much for helping by commenting, educating! Perhaps we could get the dialogue started? U.S. only discusses abuse when a woman is killed by a boyfriend or spouse, or if a celebrity is battered!

Also, I love that Israel accepts gays in the military. If the US had (even) more enemies, I wonder if there would be more equality in the service...
Keep giving us hell, Caleigh!

Muammar (Muhammed) al Kaddafi, Libyan chief of state since 1965, received royal treatment in Rome on June 10, 2009, or thereabouts; he had 40 female bodyguards. Other countries are way ahead of the United States in this respect - respect for women. (Of course, there are countries that are way behind the U.S. in their variegated treatment of the female sex.) We want this same self-preservation taught to our young women and girls in the United States, like yesterday! We just don't see the above bodyguards being physically abused by their significant others! Were the female bodyguards Italian or Libyan? That is the question? The next question is when do we start!?
